United States: Racism is 2012

I came across this article today in AlterNet, a news aggregate about Tanya McDowell, a homeless single mother, who was prosecuted for grand larceny, in connection with sending her 5 year old son to kindergarten at a school that was in a better district than she was entitled to.

Ms.McDowell was floating between a homeless shelter, a friend's home and her vehicle when she registered her son using her friend's home address.  This school district in Norwalk Connecticut, had twenty five similar cases but decided to press charges for the first time against Ms. McDowell, apparently thinking that an impoverished, homeless single-mother, who happened to be Black would be easily prosecuted.

Clearly, Ms.McDowell was under an unlucky star.  Shortly before her court case was to be held she was arrested  and charged with selling drugs, public support for her dwindled and she accepted a plea bargain of a 12 year sentence, with 5 years on parole.  The penalties for the charges against her were so overwhelming that she took the plea deal, hoping to only have to spend the minimum of five years away from her son.  Her son is staying with his grandfather.

Once a person is charged with a crime her whole world is changed.  Nobody seems to recall the presumption of innocence, the prosecution refused to sever the drug charges from the grand larceny charges.  Women are the fastest growing prison population.  Those who have never been arrested are shocked and dismayed by how they are treated.  First, everything you say is considered a lie.  The police put on this facade that they know everything there is to know and what they know is that you are guilty and you deserve many long years in prison.

The process is unlike anything you've ever seen on teevee. The police will use excessive force, lie to you, refuse to apply Miranda Rights.  Then you are subject to the frisk.  You will stand naked, you will bend over, if you are a woman with heavy breasts you will be required to lift them for inspection.  You have to shake your hair out, put your tongue out,  stand on one foot so they can see between your toes.  There may be rude commentary at every step of this outrage.  They take your clothes, if they let you keep your shoes they want the laces.  Then they turn you loose into a strange world of locks and cages; strangers that bark at you with fear aggression, the mentally ill, old, young and powerless, just like you.

When people, the talking heads on cable news channels and other pundits declare that racism is dead in America and point to the election of Barak Obama as their proof, don't you believe that for a nanosecond.  Racism is alive and well in America, just ask Tanya McDowell, in her Connecticut prison cell.

Of course you realize this is a riff on "A very Good Year."  My favorite version was by Chicago's own, the late great, Mr. Lou Rawls. 

Mr. Lou Rawls, introduced me to rap back in the early 60's.  With his talk of the Windy City, the Hawk, the Eagle flies on Friday, the process (the patent leather stylin process) the player and the game.

Attacks on Al Aqsa Escalate

From the 2nd Intifada, to the most recent report of "Settlers" boldly stating their intention to destroy the very symbol and essence of the holy city Jerusalem, is one part of a multipronged attack.

Being no expert I can't help but think of the outrage when a Jewish Temple is vandalized. Swastika graffitied temples demand headlines. And yet the Dome of the Rock is defiled, infiltrated*,I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot of that buzz word, infiltrated* and I have to read foreign news in US to learn of this intolerant outrage.

I demand outrage. I demand an end to this bullying criminal activity. Just because the Zionist government passes laws to steal land and to destroy property and demolish historical, functional heirlooms you can call it legal. But you can never call it just or moral.

The June 1967 Israeli attack on USA's USS Liberty has still not been thoroughly investigated by the United States government's Congress or Senate.

In June of 1967 Israel aggressed against Egypt along with France and Britain. This group wanted dominance over the Suez Canal.

So on a bright clear sunny June day Israeli war planes with their star of David logo's partially concealed, they bombed the Liberty even though it was flying a large, visible American flag.

All these years later the Israeli government still maintains it was a case of mistaken identity. I believe the Israeli government issued an apology and $2,000,000 for the survivors. hoping the 'issue' would just go away.

We have recently become aware of the USA submarine, "Amberjack" was in the area on the day of the assault and filmed the entire incident. The film was couriered to the USA Department of Defense, that is the last of what we know about the film, was it destroyed or is it sitting gathering dust in some Pentagon storeroom?

The cruel bombing & strafing from the air, missiles from the sea by Israeli Navy (even to the shredding of the lifeboats by strafing) and the jamming of radio signals show that no effort was spared to sink the USS Liberty.

There are still living survivors of this savage attack. People are still fearful of talking after 44 years, I'd like to know why. I'd like to know why Lyndon B. Johnson forced our air force to turn back from assisting the Liberty. Was this a false flag to drag USA into war against Egypt and was our government complicit?

I'd really like to know what happened to that film and definitely want to know why Israel never seems to have consequences to their vulgar, obscene violence.

Humans are social beings for the most part and avoid behavior that is isolating or likely to cause incarceration. My prayer for peace includes the mantra of 'mind your own business USA'. We need to get our own house in order. Start with bringing the troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the hundreds of other military bases all need shut down. Out of Libya post haste and Sudan.

Paranoid or R my comments censored on ICH?

I've noticed quite a bit of 'your comment is awaiting moderation', and when I check back my post is gone.

This week I want to talk about censorship, self-censorship, the publication of Israel's starvation diet plan (which had no mentions according to a lexisNexis search)except for two Palestinian local newspapers.

Thanksgiving was great, and I have lots of catching up to do.

Information Clearing House was a dream come true when I first found it. First they changed the comments to a less desirable system, then they went all out & you could chat & blog, but there were some financial shenanigans with people Tom Feeley was involved with.

And now, you never know what the censors will block, I suppose it is time to bid farewell to ICH.

Dangerous Creation by David Grayling has become an unreadable blog. All must worship DavidG or deal with his sarcastic wrath. He's off my list too, how much America bashing can a Pittsburgh native take?

WikiLeaks ~ Who Benefits?

Wikileaks has made their largest information dump to date and the reactions from the mainstream media are troubling. From what I've seen of the diplomatic cables, their release is decidedly underwhelming.

Some government officials have called for the arrest of Julian Assange on charges of treason. Is that not ridiculous? Could an Australian releasing USA secrets even qualify for treason? Wouldn't the secrets have to have been Australian?

Some few US officials have called for imprisoning Assange to Guantanemo or even killing him. The folks ruling my country seem to have no Democratic principles.

All in All the media are reporting that the leaks are good for Israel, especially Israeli media.
Israel has been pushing for an illegal war of aggression against Iran since the GWBush administration. I'd like to be able to write with assurance that our Nobel Peace Prize winning President Obama would never initiate a preemptive war on another batch of phony Israeli intelligence.

My conclusion is that Julian Assange is a whistleblower who believes in transparency in government. I think his philosophy could be "Let the chips fall where they may".

I'm l00% in favor of transparency. The USA government wants to know everything about me and I believe in reciprocity.

The way this info dump is handled by the USA government may show how far down the road to a police state we have ventured.

An Ode to Dr. Sami Al-Arian

I was blessed with a small correspondence with Dr. Sami Al-Arian.

Here was my fellow brother, hauled through American Justice system because of the state-fostered terror after the mysterious occurances on September 11, 2001.

Dr. Al-Arian was a math/computer professor if memory serves. Many of his students supported him as a gifted teacher. His crime was raising money for a charitable Palestinian organization, where is the harm? No his crime was being born Palestinian at the very time zionists criminals are ethnically cleansing Palestine of the indigenous population, stealing their land, culture, their health & even their very lives.

Well turns out the Federal Government decided the Islamic Charity was a facade for terrorist money laundering. Giving alms and charity is a pillar of Islam, how could the USA not know that?

A few things I learned from Dr. Al-Arian, his gracious, hospitable tone and concern always greeted me. He always thanked me for my support, we might chat a bit about the case or our families, this is a correspondence I treasure. In our mundane letters I caught a glimpse of a gentle man who would go to his grave rather than renounce his values. I admire him immensely.

I wrote to Dr. Al-Arian because I read that he looked forward to mail (being in solitary confinement at the time) and hundreds of miles away from his family. The pettiness of the USA bureaucracy was painful to witness; from Florida to Indiana to Virginia, I suppose Dr. Al-Arian could write a critique of Federal American Prison systems.

And Dr Al-Arian is an empathetic, kindly man who even took the time to comfort me when I vented about the upside-down world we live in.

Dr. Al-Arian is my hero, along with shoe hurler Al-Zaidi, Helen Thomas and Bradley Manning and Viva Palestina & ISM.

You'd never know the world was in the throes of a world-wide revolution, even in Wisconsin. But the Obama administration strolls along like it is immune to the will of the people.

The USA veto of the UN resolution has done no favors for America or Israel.

Julian Assange

Wikileaks, who knows what to make of it? First the revelations, for the most part, were known by anyone who follows the shenanigans of empire. USAn's in politics and media agreed Julian Assange is a traitor. Some Americans have called for his assassination, crudely and nakedly open calls that whoever killed him would be an American patriot.

Then came the Middle East perspective, Wikileaks showed the raw, naked face of EMpire, deeply damaging to America's tattered reputation after Guantanemo and Abu Ghraib. The cables seemed to omit any negativity towards Israel. Conspiracy theorists (and I am one) immediately jumped to the conclusion this was some kind of Mossad Hasbara operation, at least I did.

Then Julian Assange continued to be persecuted, first he was arrested in England, if memory serves, and he's had horrible tabloid style press, regarding the seemingly bogus rapes charges. He's clearly being threatened, he's terrified if he goes to Sweden to face the charges the Swedes will turn him over to the USA and he'll end up in Cuba indefinately.

With ongoing revolutions, peaceful in Egypt, I'm not sure about Jordan or elsewhe Hezbullah leading the Lebonese government, the Empire and Zionist are quaking, the revolution is contageous.....could it even come here?

Domestic Abuse

There comes a point in an abused woman's life when she is more afraid of staying than of leaving.

I left my husband four times and went back together with him even after I had gotten away successfully: and had my children and my own apartment, thank the Creator for PA state welfare in 1974, they made my safety possible. After a few months my husband was evicted figuring he could move in with me "temporarily". He was right but the abuse cycle was established, and the progression of violence that finally ended in my right leg.

Being ruled by fear made me desperate. I blamed myself because I believed my husband was my choice. (I made my bed...) I believed I deserved his displeasure and I began to fear and loath him. I was juggled between paralyzing fear and anger.

Leaving is all well & good if you have time to make plans, I only got to the road of making plans when my abusive husband was murdered. I was shattered with grief, I was overwhelmed with relief.

I'm so sorry about how poorly I coped in relation with my two young daughters, who were five and three when their loving, capable Father was taken away from them. Coming from my lens of being Motherless; I thought my kids were better off, I felt at my core it was better for my children to have a mother, any mother, than be left with only a clueless Father like I was.

I never understood at the time how Susan would be defined by grief for her entire life, she loved her Father & I didn't validate the enormity of her loss. Or my younger child, Wendy, tho Wendy never showed her grief and I assumed she managed it well.

On-going torment of Palestine

There are many aspects to the zionist project, which is a plan backed by perpetual access to money, to steal the geographical area of Palestine and/or enslave Palestinians.

One aspect is in journalism, zionists owned or influenced media never use the ethnicity of Palestinians, they are simply Arab or Muslim (20% of Palestinians are Christian and Muslims are international not concentrated solely in Middle East.

Recently read an article called "Looting of Palestine" which explained how zionists use the occupation to continue their historical narrative at the expense of the Palestinian and other inhabitants of the area over the centuries.

I can see why the 'Chosen' think the game is over, they do seem to have thought of everything: every advantage, every strategy. Endless financial backing, fanatic devotees via religous devotion, "their" historical & fictional version well and successfully advertised and published and publicised.

The only thing they made a mistake about was the Palestinians love of their land. And it is their land by every moral marker I know about. Palestinians know about loving the same land for generations going to the dawn of civilization & they know the neighbors, they've lived beside each other for many thousands of years.

The Ashkenazai Jews are a more nomadic/mercantile cultural background - not better or worse, though historically A.J."s gained a reputation for living off the sweat of less clever people, so moving and adapting are a Jewish genetic memory imho.

If the zionist project is permitted to flourish the world will become much more lawless and vicious. I've seen it in my own lifetime, in 1960 The Freedom Flotilla would have been saved by the USA, if not it would in the least have earned more than a sharp tongue from Britain, Europe, maybe not the USS Liberty was '67 and that was censored & not in popular knowledge.

BuhBye medical health care coveration

It is Saturday, April 12, 2010; I've been w/o coverage since April Fools' Day. Is that a subtle clue?

The way I see it I have three major problems with this new wrinkle in my saggy 62 year old life. The first is I need $100 per week to stay on methadone. I'm down to 50 mg. but that is still to high to just jump, tho if I were arrested they would cut me cold turkey (eventually anyway--I still have that pregnancy card to play, heheheheheh.

The next problem is right now as I type I can feel an ear infection developing, had mucho experience with ear infections when me & Cedric got together & then I thought I had bugs. Ugh what a revolting development. I cannot afford to go to a doctor, but I can get a list of sliding scale & no pay clinics.

Last but not least I've never bought any insurance except for the mandatory car & home policies. I reall wish I had someone who could hold my hand through this process, I am overwhelmed with fear, with actual terror, I am paralyzed with dread of making wrong moves.

My health care dilemma

At the end of October I was supposed to mail in my social security paperwork to prove I was still disabled. I quit going to doctors for maybe 4 years but beginning in 2008 I sporadically made appointments & was in process of trying to get back into a mental health therapy routine.

Unfortuately, my doctor at Western Psych acted as if I disgusted him; so I quit going.

I started at Mercy Behavioral, but time was not on my side. I had a psychiatric appointment in mid February, but missed it. The next available appointment comes on April 28th.

I have 33 months to go before I reach the magic age of 65 ~ which by the way Obama administration is talking might be raised to 68 with no medical safety net.

In the meantime, I'm growing cataracts, am on 55 mgs. of methadone (which costs $100 per week w/o health care), have neuropathy, rhuematic & osteo arthritis + major chronic depression.

The anxiety is eating me alive.

Hoarders

I signed up for cable tv just so I could watch this program called "Hoarders." Since Pittsburgh changed from analog to digital (whatever that means) you had to get special equipment to get even the basic local channels.

Hoarders is on now, I'll have to get back to this.
